That is apparently the title of the most recent Pink album. It's a really unfortunate album title, but it's an appropriate title to this blog post.
Let's just jump in: I've started trying to make music. Again, and yeah, whatever, I'm always 'trying to make music' or 'about to get music going' etc. But, hey! I'm actually firing up the programs, and making noises. Nothing at all that I want to put up on display yet, but let's start at the beginning and work up and all that jazz.
Some things I've discovered:
- Logic is a really bitchily complicated program on some level. I probably don't need to be learning every single little feature, but at the same time I get frustrated when I know I SHOULD be able to do something and I can't. So, about half my time is devoted to learning software, and half to actually making noises.
- My voice is really not all I thought it was. Either it's rusty, or smoking has had a bad effect on it, or who knows what. Still, I'm having a good time singing into it, and I even tried playing the piano and singing at the same time tonight, which is something I've never been able to pull off. Given that my piano skills are currently dwindled to about nil, it sounded like a god-awful racket. But! Doing it, doing it.
- The whole music setup thing is just oodles more complicated than it should be. Frustrating. But, we move forward, we're happy! We do it more, movement starts to happen, we get better.
I'm also discovering that Ecto is a really cranky program. Though, again, this could be just from not using it.
I haven't been DOING anything! I'm so glad that I'm finally starting to do things again. Even if it sounds awful.
My writing skills have also dwindled to near nothing, but again, that's something that will come back with time. There's so much that I haven't been exercising, that I really would like to again. Just reading, writing. Making music.
